Alyson Hannigan (born March 24, 1974) is an American actress who plays Lily Aldrin in the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. She is also known for her previous roles as Willow Rosenberg on the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer and flautist Michelle Flaherty in the American Pie film series.Hannigan was born Alyson Lee Hannigan in Washington, D.C., the daughter of Emilie Posner, a real estate agent, and Al Hannigan, a truck driver.Hannigan is Jewish on her mother's side,and also has Irish ancestry.Her parents divorced a year after her birth and she was raised mostly by her mother in Atlanta.Although Hannigan had appeared in an industrial film for "Active Parenting" as a baby, as well as starred in a commercial for the Duncan Hines cookie mix in 1978, it wasn't until she moved to Los Angeles, California in 1985 that she formally began her acting career. Living with her mother and attending North Hollywood High School, she successfully auditioned for agents while visiting her father in Santa Barbara.

American Pie is a 1999 teen comedy film directed by Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz and written by Adam Herz. This was the first film directed by the Weitz brothers. The movie is centered on four boys who make a pact to lose their virginity by their high school graduation, and their subsequent adventures. The title refers to a scene in the film in which the lead character is caught having sex with a pie—earlier he was told that "third base" feels "like warm apple pie". It was a box-office hit and spawned two direct sequels: American Pie 2 in 2001, American Wedding in 2003. Singer Don McLean was credited for allowing the name of his hit song to be used as the title.

Willow Rosenberg (born either in 1980 or very early 1981 in Sunnydale, California) is a fictional character created by Joss Whedon for the television series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was portrayed by Alyson Hannigan, who also played the character in three episodes of the show's spin-off, Angel.Willow Rosenberg was born to Sheila and Ira Rosenberg. Her middle name is given as "Danielle" in an early draft of the script for the episode "Bad Girls": "If my parents hadn't settled on 'Danielle,' Danger would be my middle name." This line was not included in the broadcast episode. Her supercilious and distant mother, a psychologist, appeared in the Season Three episode "Gingerbread." Under the influence of a demon, Sheila tries to burn her daughter at the stake for being a witch, and though she loses much of her memory of the incident, Willow does not. Willow may have inherited from her mother a strong sense of outrage against political injustice, especially that committed against Native Americans, q.v., "Pangs". In the episode "The Killer in Me" Kennedy and Willow talk about how their parents reacted to their being gay, Willow mentioned to Kennedy that her mother thought it was a political statement but later she realized that Willow was serious about being lesbian and was less enthusiastic about it. Her father, never seen, is hinted to be equally uninvolved. In Season Two, Willow reveals that she has a fear of frogs, a fact she exploits to help Buffy escape in "Killed by Death".
